MLK DAY SPECIAL GUEST SPEAKER STEPHEN SCHWERNER
Conversations Remix with Rabbi Mark Wildes

Monday, Jan 16 @8pm | MJE West

Join MJE and young Jewish professionals for a rare chance to hear a first hand account of incredible family tragedy and a part of US history still relevant today.

Civil Rights worker Michael Schwerner, along with James Chaney and Andrew Goodman, were killed because of their activism during Mississippi’s Freedom Summer in 1964. Their murders helped to galvanize the Civil Rights Movement and support for the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

Stephen Schwerner, brother of Michael “Mickey” Schwerner joins MJE in interview with Rabbi Mark Wildes to unveil the the controversy behind thefilm’s fictionalized portrayal, secrets of the FBI and KKK collusion, state funded racism, Kennedy cover ups, personal vignettes of Jackie Robinson games, sit ins and demonstrations for desegregation at a dark time in America’s history.

A Q+A session will follow to allow for questions and comments from the audience and Facebook Live.
